An engineering marvel
The Gulf partnership with TAG Heuer was announced at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, where the iconic square watch with orange and blue racing stripes was unveiled. It is an engineering masterpiece that exemplifies the perfection that both brands strive for, as well as their unwavering passion for motor sports. The iconic TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf 2018 Special Edition is the epitome of racing passion.
TAG Heuer continues the Monaco Gulf tradition by using the colors that adorned Steve McQueen's wrist in the 1971 film "Le Mans". This iteration, a bold square design emblazoned with blue and orange stripes, exemplifies both our spirit and that of TAG Heuer, with precision engineering, bold choices, and products that can withstand competitive pressure.
The 2018 edition marked the fiftieth anniversary of the very first time a Gulf car won the 24-hour Le Mans. The first Heuer Monaco was launched in 1969. It was the first automatic square chronograph that was water-resistant. This was a first for TAG Heuer and the watchmaking world. The TAG Heuer Monaco Gulf 2018 Edition embodies a series of firsts, as well as the spirit of pushing forward and winning.
The partnership continues
Our partnership with TAG Heuer represents a recognition of kinship and shared values. This ongoing collaboration is represented by another watch: The TAG Heuer Formula 1 Gulf Special Edition. This watch was unveiled at a press conference at Le Mans which, in turn, represents speed and performance on a racetrack. This watch, with its more traditional circle design, pays homage to two of the world's most prominent motor sport sponsors.
Fully reminiscent of the heritage of Gulf and TAG Heuer, it sports the same blue and orange stripes, the driving livery colors of Gulf cars, and carries this on to the blue bands and the orange stitching, making it a striking and sporty watch.
Making history
Gulf and TAG Heuer have shared many historic highlights that have spanned over 50 years.
Gulf was the first company to drill below the sea in search of oil and in 1913, we became the first to open a petrol station. This trailblazing attitude has stood the test of time and we have constantly forged ahead to create new products and solutions for our customers.
Edouard Heuer, who opened up his watch shop in Switzerland in 1887, invented the oscillating pinion which is still used in many chronographs to this day. The pioneering spirit of the founder of TAG Heuer still powers the brand to this day.
The partnership between Gulf and TAG Heuer demonstrates both brands’ commitment to pushing the boundaries of excellence and innovation.
